Compared with his relations with the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom and the Soviet Union, Sun Yat-sen’s ties with France have received relatively little scholarly attention, leaving noticeable gaps in the collection and utilization of French historical materials. French diplomatic archives contain a wealth of primary sources related to Sun Yat-sen’s revolutionary activities, offering immense value that urgently awaits in-depth exploration and utilization. First, French sources expand the empirical foundation of Sun Yat-sen studies, compensating for the limitations and biases in Chinese-language documents. Second, French diplomatic archives contribute to broadening the research scope of Sun Yat-sen studies by examining the role of the French dimension in his revolutionary trajectory, thereby opening new horizons for the history of China-French relations. Finally, Sun Yat-sen’s revolutionary image retains a dynamic relevance that evolves with the times. Revisiting his revolutionary journey through the compilation and research of historical materials carries significant contemporary relevance and social significance.
